New Piercing?

Unless you follow me on twitter, you probably wouldn't know that I recently got a new piercing. I had my helix pierced in a tattoo and piercers in Leicester called KAZBAH which, if you live in that area and want a new piercing, I would highly recommend you go there as the people are lovely and there's so many pieces of jewellery to stare at whilst you wait (oh the little things...)

This was my first 'proper' piercing which was done with a needle. I know a needle sounds scary if you have never had something like this done before but it's really not that bad, trust me. I normally have quite a low pain threshold but it didn't hurt too much. I've heard a lot about how if you have any part of your cartilage pierced with a gun, it could shatter it so it really isn't worth the risk.

On the pain scale, I would probably rate it about a four, but I have no other piercings to compare it to so that may not be of much help.

I wasn't going to lie on this post and tell you that everything went fine after and it started healing absolutely perfectly with no pain at all because that would be a lie. But don't let it put you off, the piercing afterwards is absolutely worth it and is definitely my current favourite.

The pain once we left the shop wasn't too bad and definitely not unbearable. I put my hair up after so it wouldn't catch and dealt with the small amount of discomfort like what would happen if you had cut yourself, a bit of redness and slightly warm but nothing major. By the next day, it was sore and began to get red which wasn't unexpected. Then started to swell and was still sore. It took three days after for the pain to go and maybe six or seven for the swelling, I did even attempt a bag of frozen peas. However, it is now fine and I'm obsessed with it. It's healing perfectly!

Sterling silver ear cuff | Body Jewellery Shop *
Rose gold plated ear cuff | Body Jewellery Shop *

Body Jewellery shop kindly sent me these amazing ear cuffs which will be perfect in my new piercing once it has healed so I am really looking forward to that moment! Their jewellery is super cheap so definitely worth checking it out for anything from normal lobe piercings to stretching tapers so is perfect for all your ear piercing wishes!

Is there any piercings you want? Or any jewellery you have your eye on from Body Jewellery shop? Or any tips to heal helix piercings? I'd love to know!

Being Ordinary is Boring.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I refuse to follow the crowds a lot of the time. I'm not going to have an ordinary job and dress in a ordinary fashion, not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just not for me. I don't want to look the same as the person sitting next to me on the tube or act how the woman does who is walking to her office job. I want to be noticed.

At my school, we have pretty strict rules: One pair of studs in each lobe. No jewellery unless it's a watch. Subtle makeup. Black socks, blazer on, sleeves mustn't be rolled up and to be honest I stick to that... well most of the time (except the rule about blazers, piercings, jewellery, makeup and sleeves.) but I'm not a rebel. Apart from not really agreeing with the rules, my attendance and work is pretty good so I have to design what I'm like in a different way, even if it's not always noticeable to the people around me. I wear lipstick, have my helix pierced, act childish around my friends because I don't revise 24/7. All not a big deal but define me when rules are put in place.

You don't even need to act or look different. Just do something different. Even if you like cross-country running or ballet dancing, that's different and that's you. If you like wearing Dr. Martens but they aren't the 'trend' right now. It doesn't matter, that's you. Don't ever stop being the person you are because its not what is 'socially acceptable'. Things that are currently 'socially acceptable' now won't be in 10 years time, in one years time, in a months time or in a weeks time. You will still be you and don't stop being you because you are you and no one else can change that. Don't forget who you really are.

Sports Luxe.

If anyone had ever said to me that in a years time, you would be wearing Joggers out in public I would have laughed and replied "Absolutely no way!" but I would have been very wrong.

Formal Joggers | Topshop
Jacket | Topshop (old)
Floaty Vest | River Island
Heels | Primark
Clutch bag | Miss Selfridge (On reverse side)

I ordered these joggers online after umming and arring over them for so long because I knew that if I didn't have them, I would regret it at some point in the future and at first I found them quite hard to style. Tucking in white shirts, throwing on a pair of ballet pumps, hat or no hat? Rucksack or clutch bag? until I started thinking outside of the box and thought about pretending they were just a smart pair of black trousers putting heels and a blazer with them just to give them that smart casual look.

These joggers are really comfy and if you currently despise people that walk outside in sweats or onesies then these are something that would be perfect for you if there are days when you want to be comfier but don't want to 'dress down' too much.

You could easily switch the heels out for a pair of strappy sandals if heels aren't your thing and the blazer could be changed to any colour or fit. Its all about customising to work for you. The joggers will fit differently depending on your shape and will work well with other things that may not have worked for me. They would look amazing with a bralet but I don't have to confidence to wear something like that, nor do I have the figure. It may really suit you to wear them with a jumper or a trench coat, it's just about experimenting for your individual shape and style and I say: Go for it! there are no rules with fashion.

Current Lipstick Lovin'

MAC Lipstick in 'Craving' | Available here
Kiko Lip line in '712' | Available here

I have developed a new obsession for this lip combination. I recently picked up MAC 'Craving' lipstick and have been wearing it ever since but I was in Kiko not too long ago to purchase a lipstick and liner for one of my good friends who I was going to visit and I fell in love with the lipstick that I had picked for her that had to pick up two of them and the matching lip liner. When I got home I realised that the lipstick was rather similar to this one so I may do a comparison post on them soon! Anyway, I have been using the lipliner with this lipstick ever since as the shade matches almost perfectly and is only £1.90!

The Makeup bag featured is also a very recent purchase as I had been looking for a tiny one just to put in my handbag to hold a mirror, lipstick and maybe a touch up concealer on the odd occasion and this one perfectly fits! It is a small canvas bag with the words 'Glitter runs through my veins' with an oil cloth (maybe?) lining on the inside which will protect the makeup bag if there happens to be any nasty spillages. I picked this one up in a little independent store but you can also buy it here.

Sneak Peak into my Office

Today, I thought I would show you a sneak peak of my desk/office area. It is still not finished as I still need to find alternatives for some pieces of furniture but I am now happy with my little space and spend many hours in here writing blogposts, editing photos, relaxing and taking pictures!

All post cards from Paperchase except the one in the top left which is from Paris.

I have one wall, which you will see a little bit of in a minute, full of post cards and had to extend my collection putting them above my desk as I just kept finding so many that I loved and I plan to continue finding little postcard gems. I love them because they inject a little bit of colour and you can buy so many different ones that you wouldn't think would work together but look so nice next to each other and make me smile everytime I see them.

Usually I would hide my pens away but these have the brightly coloured lids and just add another little dash of colour to one side of my desk. Its a cheap way of adding decoration that is practical and also makes them easy to reach for. They are the only pens I have on my desk but I do have an Ikea trolley behind me which holds other pens and highlighters that I need to reach for quickly.

The post-it notes are there to remind me to mark pages in my revision guides but also add another little bit of colour alongside and bright pink flamingo candle which was only £1.50 from Primark recently. Things don't have to be expensive to add colour and decoration.

So this is what is directly behind me giving you another peak of my post card collection. I keep my Revision cards in the small Victoria Secret bag to disguise them so they look prettier but still making them easy to reach for and I store my pens in a cute mug and and Ikea candle holder.

I've utilised many cheap items or even freebies to make my office a nice, calming space for me to work and revise. I don't have a desk in my bedroom as I try to keep my room a work free area so I can go to it in the evening and enter a stress free environment which isn't associated with deadlines and essays to write.

Colour is always associated with happiness and seeing as my bedroom is quite neutral in colour, I wanted to make my office a bright and inviting space which may not be for everyone but I really like it and love coming here everyday.

Eyeko eyeliner - Good as it looks?

Eyeko Skinny liquid eyeliner | Available here

I was recently browsing the magazine aisle in my local supermarket and was instantly drawn to the newest edition of Instyle magazine as it was giving away some beauty freebies from Eyeko. There are four in the collection adding up to over £40 if all brought so I thought it was a great deal! There was the choice of the eyelash curler, a chubby eyeliner thing, this liquid eyeliner or some makeup wipes but I already had the Eyelash curler so the eyeliner looked the next best thing!

Whenever magazines are giving away beauty products, especially high end ones like Eyeko, it's the perfect time to try out new a new product!

This eyeliner retails for £12 but I only paid £3.99 for both the magazine and the product so got it for an absolute bargain. I have tried this eyeliner before but when I was first starting out in makeup when it was smaller and in silver packaging but I can remember that it dried out really quickly so I was very curious to see if they had re-packaged and re-formulated it to make it better. The fact that it was also in black was obviously also a bonus!

From a first impressions point of view, this eyeliner is really smooth making it super easy to get a smooth, sharp line without leaving the colour looking blotchy or patchy in some areas which I know many eyeliners do. I am yet to try this for a full day so I will report back if it really is as good as it looks but so far I really do like it and I think it will be a staple in my eyeliner collection from now on!

My Two Minute Lazy Face.

We all have lazy days or days where we need to rush out quickly because we overslept or our alarm didn't go off (See my 15 minute morning routine) but one thing I can never sacrifice is a little dab of makeup. Honestly, if I'm just popping out to the shop, I'm not really too bothered who sees me and my natural complexion as I'm a big fan of giving my face a break but if I'm going any further than just down the road then I always like to pop a little bit of something on my face. I have created my four product, no extra brushes necessary and takes maybe two minutes face.

Once I'm quickly settled at my makeup station, the first thing I reach for is my Maybelline Instant age rewind Concealer as this isn't too obvious. That sounds really stupid but I mean that if I used a really high coverage concealer, you would be able to tell I wasn't wearing foundation so I always want something a little bit lighter in consistency and coverage. Then I head to brow drawer for my Primark Brow pencil just to give them shape. This product is really cheap and comes with a brush on the end so no extra tools necessary. Moving swiftly onto mascara, my current favourite is the Max Factor Clump defy Mascara which gives tons of volume and I feel, really helps to lengthen my lashes as well. The last thing on my makeup to-do list is lips. Usually when I'm having a quick makeup moment, I just stick on a pair of huge sunglasses and a bold lip so it looks like I put time into my makeup when really I haven't so my bold lip of choice tends to be Barry M Gelly Hi shine lipstick in 'Vega Cherry Red' or if I'm feeling a bit more neutral, I reach for my current favourite tinted lip balm which is the Benefit Benebalm as it gives a really pretty red sheen to the lips but still keeps the lips moisturised which is perfect on a cold morning.

Taking Time for Yourself.

One of my favourite things to do is to take my camera out and snap all the glory of the world. Sometimes life can get a little bit non-stop and stressful but often the best thing you can do is take time out and do something you love whether it is going shopping or going to a spa or just driving your car. Whatever it is you need to do it.

Everyone needs a rest at some point so you need to take a breather. When you are stressed or always on the go, it's nice to take a day off to let you levels go back to normal even if you just have on morning off a week even if you just get a lie in and then paint your nails, it's good just to take time for yourself.

I don't think I'm necessarily 'great' at photography but its something I enjoy. Snapping memories or things that are just beautiful out and about. The things you do in your time off, you don't have to be an expert at. Just let it be something that you enjoy and as long as it puts a smile on your face, it's completely worth it!

This weeks challenge is to take some time off whether it is from a busy lifestyle or homework, do it. Even though things are crucial such as exam prep, you won't get anywhere if you don't take a breather.

Just a mess of Wonderful Chaos

I was recently rummaging around in my wardrobe for something to wear that was smart but yet still a little bit casual and I came across these trousers that I bought last year from Primark. I got quite a lot of wear out of these last year because they are so light and comfortable but can be dressed up or down and were bought specifically to be my air plane outfit as they are so comfortable if you are sitting for a long period of time but it turned out that I wore them much more than I anticipated.

Jumper | Mango (similar here)
Trousers | Primark (old)
Shoes | Primark
Necklace | River island (similar here)
Clutch | Miss Selfridge

I absolutely adore these heels and I always try to find any excuse and out fit to ear them with. I wrote a blog post dedicated to them which you can read here. They always remind me of the Valentino Rockstud heels but without the studs and much cheaper!

My clutch bag is really lovely and you can fit so much into it. At the moment, I can only find the lime and teal version on the Miss Selfridge website but both colours are still absolutely stunning. I always liked the moto clutches if that's what they are called but never really thought I would get that much use out of it until I came across this one which is a perfect plain black clutch and if you don't want to see the words, you can easily flip it over and it still look just as good.

A New Favourite from L'Oreal.

I picked up this foundation from Boots the other week after I saw that it was a new release from L'oreal and wanted to give it a go as it was on an introductory offer with a pound off but I think that deal ends soon so be quick!

This foundation claims to be a 24 hour matte foundation however, I haven't ever needed to or had chance to wear my foundation for 24 hours so unfortunately I cannot really comment on that side of it; I can however agree that it is a high coverage with a medium texture. The look that it gives it really lovely and looks amazing in photos so this might be the one for any summer occasions such a parties or weddings this year.

I have combination skin with normal to dry patches in some places and an oily T-zone but I haven't found this foundation at all drying on my skin which I did expect it to be. It still looks really nice and stays in place on the oily patches and doesn't look cakey on the dry bits.

The only thing I don't like about this foundation is the shade range. Number 11 - Vanilla is the lightest shade in the range but it is still quite dark for pale people such as me so I really do have to spend time blending it out and down the neck so isn't one to apply in a hurry. They also don't cater for many darker skin tones in the UK, only going up to number 30 - Honey so it will only really work for you if you have slightly tanned skin.

The only thing underneath my makeup is the Benefit porefessional primer worn on nose and T-zone and the rest on my face is primer free however, I did powder and add highlighter so I could show you what the foundation would look like with a full face of makeup.

I do however, really like this foundation and if you are looking for a new one, I would definitely recommend you pick it up!
